Have a Chevy Chase Christmas

Christmas Ukulele Videos

Al Wood has posted two collections of Christmas-themed videos at Ukulele Hunt (here and here); his top pick from these two is Mad Tea Party’s “Oh Shit, It’s Christmastime.”  Armelle has posted an excellent collection at Ukulele and Languages.  My favorite of her picks is “Ukulele Christmas” by “yosinobu1950.”  UkeToob hasn’t put up a dedicated collection, but there are some Christmas songs there, most notably GensBlue’s Django Reinhardt-inflected “All That Ukulele Christmas” and Ukulele Mike’s appealingly earnest cover of “Merry Christmas (War is Over.)”

I won’t embed any of those videos here.  Instead, Ill post two of Armelle’s own, non-Christmas oriented, performances.

Hanukkah “Phranc Talk”

Everybody’s favorite all-American Jewish lesbian folk singer, Phranc, has posted a new installment of her YouTube variety show Phranc Talk.  Since tonight is the first night of Hanukkah and there’s nothing more appropriate to an all-American Jew than a Hannukah celebration, that’s what she and Pickles have.  Of course she plays the ukulele.

Hanukkah songs written by US Senators from Utah

What with Hanukkah getting underway and all, I thought it was time to honor this song by US Senator and Mormon bishop Orrin Hatch.  The lead singer, by the way, is Rasheeda Azar, a Syrian-American originally from Terre Haute, Indiana.

ALF

Merry Christmas Early!!  ‘A’ got me an ALF doll for christmas.  I love it.  I have wanted one since I was a kid.  My advice to all this season is to find a way to reconnect with a good childhood memory.  It’s wonderful and very healing. as well  as,  refreshing for the heart and sprit.  I miss the ALF show.  It was cute and funny.  I wonder if any of the 100s of TV channels show reruns.  I have not found them yet.

Ukulele Videos for Halloween

Whether this post is a trick or a treat is not for me to decide.

Poopy Lungstuffing and Organ Failure perform “You Are My Sunshine” as it would sound if zombies sang it

Poopy does a solo version of “Little Orphant Annie.”  I think this is the best video in this post.

The Wolf in Me,” a rather grim original by Danny Korves.

Jennifer Teeter’s “Sea Monster’s Lament,” also known as “The Lesbian Sea Monster Song.”  It’s realy too sweet to be a Halloween song, but there is a monster in it, and some handcuffs, so I’m including it.

If you are looking for a song addressed to neopagans who keep 31 October as a religious holiday called Samhain, here’s something

Some collective nouns

A herd of cows; a flock of sheep;  a pride of lions; a pack of dogs.

A murmur of starlings;  an exaltation of larks;  a murder of crows; a parliament of owls.

Just in time for Halloween, David Malki’s Wondermark offers a list of collective nouns for beings of species less well-documented than those above (click the image to read a legible version of it on his site.)
