The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain has released a new album, available for sale at their website. Mrs Acilius and I have ordered our copy; it should be arriving in two or three weeks. The band’s latest email to fans promises that they will be putting out DVDs in the future of their show “Ukulelescope” and their mass-uking session at the BBC Proms last month. No word yet on when “Dreamspiel,” their opera about Germany in the 1930s, will be available for home viewing.

Colin R Tribe can see clearly now
I can’t seem to embed videos this afternoon, so you’ll have to follow this link if you’d like to see Johnny Nash‘s hit played by our favorite British Columbian fingerstylist.

One of my friends knows someone who was in a horrible accident in Wyoming. His name is Jerad Hammock (not sure about the spelling) . He slipped on a rock and fell into a river. They have not found him yet so they do not know his condition. I am praying that he is found and that he is alive. Please join me if you wish.
Here is a beautiful song by Victoria Vox for Jerad and his family and friends.

Ukulele and Languages
Ukulele and Languages collects ukulele videos in (you’ll never guess!) various languages.
The latest post includes a couple of videos of Danish songs; this one, by “EvertParkLars,” is particularly likable.
Voodoo Marmalade is apparently Portugal‘s answer to the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain. They are off to a good start; considering that UOGB has been at it for 24 years, I hope no one will think I’m being sniffy if I say that Voodoo Marmalade has some way to go before they match them.
This page of eastern European ukuleleists ends with a video in Polish called “Ukulele Kajaki” (“Ukulele Kayak.”) I don’t understand a word of the lyrics, but the guy’s voice sounds like it’s saying something hilarious.
Is there Latin? Of course there’s Latin! Here’s “Love Machine” redone as “Machina Amoris.”

Ukulele Festivals
If this site were your only source of information about the world of the ukulele, you would never have known about last week’s London Uke Festival, where a world record was set for mass uking. Fortunately, our friend Woodshed keeps the world informed of these things.
Nor would you know that Nashville, Indiana is the home of the Bushman Ukulele Luau, which has already convened twice this summer and will gather again in August.
Still less would you know to mark your calendar for the Paris Ukulele Festival on the 4th of July.
Heck, you wouldn’t even know that the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain was organizing a mass uke-in at the Royal Albert Hall on 18 August. Everyone is supposed to show up, jumping flea in hand, and play Beethoven’s Ode to Joy. Here’s a video they’ve made to promote the great event:
When I told Mrs Acilius what tune they were using, she was chagrined. She walked onto the stage at our wedding to the UOGB’s recording of Finlandia, and we exited to some non-ukulele rendition of the Ode to Joy. “If only they’d done this two years ago!” she exclaimed. “Then they might have had a version of it on CD by the time of the wedding.”

Rockabilly Roustabout
I’m back in the office, doing actual work. So I need ukulele in the background. Here‘s a number from Al Wood, aka Woodshed of Ukulele Hunt.
