Ladies First

Well I certainly am a believer in dogs!  I enjoyed reading this article about how puppies play.  Apparently male pups are “furry gentlemen” when playing with females in the hopes that information gained from playing will help them get the ladies in the future.

“Male dogs sometimes place themselves in potentially disadvantageous positions that could make them more vulnerable to attack, and researchers suspect the opportunity to play may be more important to them than winning”

Also interesting was the portion of the article devoted to what females learn from playing with other females.  Learning how to protect oneself seems to be important there.

Reminds me of a cat I know. It likes to wrestle or play with toys from a reclining position. The cat is trying to simulate a last-ditch stand against an opponent and thereby hone its fighting skills. Or it’s a stunningly lazy animal.

I know a couple of dogs who like to do that, too. I love that phrase “furry gentlemen.”

My kitties- a male and female- like to play-fight from a reclining position. I assume is to facilitate rabbit-kicking. Aren’t the hind legs the strongest appendages?

I am so glad you 3 saw this. I just love watching our boys(Bingo and phoenix) play. They are so funny. It is fun to try to figure out what they might be saying to each other. They are probably laughing at what I come up with.

Dogs have such a capacity for enjoyment that it’s easy to get deeply involved in their play. It just feels good to watch them.
