Working Dogs

I would like to take this opportunity to give a shout out to CCI.  They have been training assistance dogs for mor than 30 years.  I have received two assistance dogs from them both of which made it possible (one is still making it possible) for me to lead a happy, productive life.  I do not take the training of service dogs lightly.  I just thought the video was cute.

He looks just like our boy Phoenix!

My grandfather had several Seeing Eye guide dogs throughout his life, as he suffered from vision problems since birth and went completely blind at an early age. While he and my grandmother (also blind) were quite capable, those “Seeing Eyes” provided an edge in maneuverability, security and companionship that couldn’t be had any other way. There’s nothing more noble than that kind of warm, dedicated service to a fellow being.

I’ll be sure to donate to CCI as well as The Seeing Eye when I get a job again.

Hip, hip, hooray for assistance animals!

Very well put! I met your grandfather once, and have several acquaintances in common with him. So I know that he and his successive dogs were quite remarkable. One elderly member of the Quaker meeting where the missus and I (and Phoenix) go every Sunday can rarely look at Phoenix without repeating the story of how a mutual friend of his and your grandfather was driving with your grandfather down an unfamiliar street. The judge’s guide dog became quite agitated. They pulled over, afraid he might be sick. As soon as they stopped, the dog relaxed. Then the driver realized that he’d been driving the wrong way on a one way street.

V, I think it would be very nice to see posts about your Grandfather’s dogs. I have lots of stories about my dogs that I could share too. What do you say?
