U.S. residents throw away about 100 billion pounds of food every year (nearly 3,000 pounds per second), enough to feed 60 million people. At the same time, more than 35 million U.S. residents are hungry or on the edge of hunger.

The Believer does that all the time! She’ll be glad to know she’s part of a movement.

    Way to go Believer!

It’s such a no-brainer I’m surprised everybody in mid- to large-sized cities doesn’t do this.

The only drawback I can think of is that there are people who let their dogs run loose, even in cities. Such a dog might become an even worse nuisance if there were a lot of food lying around out in the open.

Dogs like that should be permanently relocated to owners who can properly care for them.

I agree. I suppose it’s okay to let your dog run loose if you live someplace where there are no cars and very few other people, but I cannot for the life of me see why anyone would let a dog run unleashed in a modern city.
