I don’t think such a contest is strictly necessary. There’s enough demand for soy-based pseudo-meat products now to support Morningstar Farms, Boca, and other brands. So I’m sure the potential market for cultured meat products dwarfs PETA’s $1m prize.
I disagree. PETA wants everyone to stop eating once-sentient beings. All autonomous animals are off-limits, including fish, shellfish, insects, et cetera. That might be easier if there wasn’t such a big demand for the *real* meat versus the *fake* meat. As a self-proclaimed domestic-beer-drinking-NASCAR-lovin’-no-frills-meat-and-poatoes-eatin’ redneck, Mr. Cymast won’t even TRY soy-based meat subsitutes. And there are a lot of people like him.
BUT- the glitch is he won’t try lab meat either. His meat has to be once-sentient.
