You’ve Got to Be Joking AKA Presidential Election 2008

What’s the most embarrassing USA political debacle?

a. Bush Jr.

b. Bush Jr. for a 2nd term

c. McCain after Bush Jr.’s 2nd term

Wrong, wrong, and wrong! It’s Palin!

But she’s not running for President, right? . . RIGHT??

Wrong!

[Insert cocky Alaskan colloquialism here] she is!

I tell you, she gives the word “snowbilly” a bad name.

The burning books in the Palin as President page are a nice touch!

The more you hear about her, the more amazing it is that she is so close to the presidency. She and Crazy John are really just a couple of lucky breaks from winning the election- Mr O is ahead now, but not by all that much. And if that happens, how long do you think he’ll live? A year? Half a year?

Obama could win the popular vote, but we know that kind of show of faith is ineffectual. Bush Jr.X2 shows you how relevant the will of the people is, IMO.

I’m confident that if the election were held today Mr O would get 272 electoral votes- the states John Kerry won (252 votes) plus Iowa and Virginia (20 votes.) Of course, if the election were held today most people would be very surprised. Anyway, Mr O is at least as likely to win the electoral vote as he is to win the popular vote.

The GOP is so steeped in the cult of image-over-substance, that it actually seems viable to them to take a complete non-entity (e.g. Palin) and try to fashion, coach, mold her — NOT into a plausible politcal figure, but rather — into a plastic image so well-crafted that it can take in massive numbers of people. Why provide actual leadership when you can operate an elaborate hustle?: Get people not only to accept garbage but also smile and say thank-you. The problem with Palin in her current state, is that her bullshit image isn’t cunning and tricky enough; she can’t talk the talk, i.e. say vacuous things using the correct repertoire of tone and vocabulary to make people believe there’s something there. However once she is able to develop a more nuanced ACT, then people will be clamoring to pin gravitas and stature upon her, like pin the tail on the donkey. I mean, denial aint just a river in Egypt…and Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers did call GW Bush the most intelligent man she’d ever known and likened him to a Cambridge professor. (She must’ve meant Cambridge, Mass., since there’s no way he could cut the mustard at the real Cambridge!) Even Palin in her present incarnation has successfully commanded the most ludicrous public adulation. The very, very most charitable thing that could be said of her in relation to Obama is that they’re equals in political experience…and that’s only because it’s hard to pin down 100% objective criteria to quantify “experience.” But I seem to recall that statements were being made about her essentially putting Obama to shame with her stellar, incomparable background. Clearly there is no limitation on the extent of possible delusion. For most people a college transcript is a couple sheets of paper; for Palin, it’s a 3-ring binder of documentation. What gives? I wonder if the lenses of those glasses were specially-ground for crystal-clear “moose vision”?

Has-been-Palin has been using some sort of secret faux-maverick time warp machine to stretch her 15 minutes well past its expiration date. She’s calling her critics “cowards” while hinting at a “not for naught” presidential run in 2012. But I don’t think a willfully ignorant, wolf-shooting, homophobic, misogynistic (did I leave anything out?) oh yeah- book-banner-wannabe can possibly be a viable candidate without a McWarHero endorsing her.

…and she’s a bit unsure about whether we need to do much of anything about global warming! That’s *unacceptable* in any political leader, much less one at the national level.

Surely your prognostication must be 100% right-on. (Help us, God.) There’s just not enough there. She’s just not a serious figure.

The paradox is that her bizarre “appeal” to many, seems to hinge on precisely her cluelessness and her ignorance. As if it would somehow be comforting to have a high official who’s making an egregious mess of everything she touches…because *heck* that’s whut us reg’ler folks’d do!!!!
