Six More Weeks of Winter

Punxsutawney Phil, right, is held by Ben Hughes after emerging from his burrow

He saw his shadow. BOO HOO.  I never knew exactly where the tradition comes from.  Here it is.

German tradition holds that if a hibernating animal sees its shadow on Feb. 2 — the Christian holiday of Candlemas — winter will last another six weeks. If no shadow is seen, legend says spring will come early”.

Down with Punxsutawney-centrism! It’s cloudy here today, so I’m declaring Spring in our town. Punxsutawney can have six more weeks of Winter if it wants them.

Cloudy here too! I vote we round-up any remaining winter days and slowly release them throughout the heat of summer.
