“Gay Teen Worried He Might be Christian” [The Onion, via Roger Hollander]
Cliff Clavin’s role in the Massachusetts Senate race; or, hold it right there, Doy-enne- it’s a little known fact that some of America’s greatest senators have been naked guys.
A novelty Periodic Table lists common uses for particular elements. Included are such valuable services as being a component of radioactive waste. Hey, that’s better than anything Senator Naked (R-Massachusetts) is likely to do. [haha.nu]

Lucy Knisley remembers bottle-base sidewalks. I remember them too, but Google doesn’t seem to, at least not under that name.

/ January 20, 2010“Gay Teen Worried He Might be Christian” Love this article! Too funny.
“Senator Naked”- great name. It’s kind of like “Emperor Naked.”
I started to watch the fly videos, but had to stop after the fly appeared. Very uncomfortable.
O’Brien is my fav late night host ever, (even though I don’t watch talk shows anymore) and I was surprised he was a part of the bomb described. Glad I didn’t see that one!

/ January 23, 2010Cymast, the fly made you uncomfortable? I never expected that response. There are other Out Of The Inkwell ‘toons with no flies, so you could check them out. Worth it.
Thanks for the link.

/ January 23, 2010I have a fly phobia, especially of houseflies in houses. I’ll check out the other Inkwell videos, though. Thanks for the suggestion!

/ January 23, 2010Yesterday I saw four displays of Betty Boop merchandise. A woman wearing a jacket decorated with Betty Boop’s name and picture; another woman carrying a bag with Betty Boop’s picture; a truck with a Betty Boop silhouette in the window; and a Betty Boop doll in a claw game at a restaurant. Perhaps other Fleischer Studios characters and series will start showing up as well.

/ January 23, 2010Betty is a merchandising phenom. Time Warner now owns the rights to her image, but she’s been the most popular female cartoon character in merchandising since the 30’s. I’ve done eBay searches on KoKo, and there are some cool things, but nothing like our Miss Betty. I’m working on a post now about KoKo and the Pierrot lineage. Pierrot is also hugely popular as a merchandising item, but I don’t think any company can own the rights to him, thank goodness.

/ January 23, 2010I’m very glad Pierrot is in the public domain, if only for Amy Crehore‘s sake.
