Relatively Obscure Emotional States

According to this article in Slate, brain scientists have recently begun to study an emotion they call “elevation.”  High-falutin’ rhetoric, like that associated with Barack Obama, can inspire it.  The closing paragraphs point out that when seen in other people, elevation can look ridiculous or disgusting.  Of course, the same is true of other emotions as well.  But we need all of them, if not always in the ways we get them.  So perhaps we need elevation too.

I’m glad he’s our next President, but contrary to Slate’s Obama ad, Obama has yet to elevate, uplift, or swoonify me.

Mr O wasn’t my first choice this year by any means. I wanted an antiwar candidate. So I started rooting for Mr O only when it came down to him or the even more hawkish Hillary Clinton. By that time he’d started to back away from the swoon-making stuff.

I’m still expecting Gore to finish out his terms. Then I’d like an eccentric multi-billionaire to dump a ton o’ $$$ on Kucinich so he can be the next President.
